Tiago P. Peixoto is an Associate Professor at the Department of Network and Data Science at the Central European University, and external researcher at the ISI Foundation in Turin.

His research focuses on characterizing, identifying and explaining large-scale patterns found in the structure and function of complex network systems — representing diverse phenomena with physical, biological, technological, or social origins — using principled approaches from statistical physics, nonlinear dynamics and Bayesian inference.

In 2019, Peixoto was awarded the prestigious Erdős–Rényi Prize in Network Science for his contributions for the statistical inference of network modules (a.k.a. communities), statistical analysis, and network visualization.

Tiago developed and maintains graph-tool—an efficient Python module for manipulation and statistical analysis of graphs (a.k.a. networks).

About the Series

As part of the Asian Institute of Management's PhD in Data Science program kick-off, we are organizing a webinar series titled The Science of Data where we have invited leading scientists and rising stars in the fields of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Network Science, and Complex Systems.

Our main goal in this series is to spread knowledge and awareness of the rich field of data-driven and empirical science, and to inspire future scientists and young researchers in this part of the world to further invest their time in advancing science through R&D.

The series will run from October through December 2020.
