Felix Valenzuela is a Senior Data Scientist at the Analytics, Computing and Complex Systems Laboratory of the Asian Institute of Management (ACCeSs@AIM). He joined ACCeSs@AIM in 2018, where he leads research into the development of smart cities under the Platform for Assessment and Tracking of Urbanization-Related Opportunities (PATURO) Project. His interests lie in complex network analysis, machine learning and their applications from the study of biomarkers to data science to the workings of developing smart cities.

Felix obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2011, and was a research scientist at the Institute of High Performance Computing, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR-IHPC) from 2013 to 2018, where he worked on projects and published research involving network modeling and cross-disciplinary data analysis, particularly on supply chain networks, disaster resilience, and bioinformatic aspects of human aging. He is a recipient of the Balik-Scientist (Returning Scientist) Award from the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Philippines.

About the Series

As part of the Asian Institute of Management's PhD in Data Science program kick-off, we are organizing a webinar series titled The Science of Data where we have invited leading scientists and rising stars in the fields of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Network Science, and Complex Systems.

Our main goal in this series is to spread knowledge and awareness of the rich field of data-driven and empirical science, and to inspire future scientists and young researchers in this part of the world to further invest their time in advancing science through R&D.

The series will run from October through December 2020.
